Mobivate offers premium shortcodes to enable the sending and receiving of premium sms messages. Shortcodes are used on TV, radio, print, outdoor media, on pack promotions and at point of sale usually for sms voting, premium rate sms, mobile content download (music/mobile games), sms charity donations, sms competitions.
How do premium shortcodes and premium sms relate?
An advertiser will advertise a call to action using a premium shortcode and a keyword relating thereto. i.e. to enter into the competition sms WIN to 12345 (each sms entry costs £1).
A consumer will respond to the advertisement by sending WIN to 12345 and by doing so will be charged £1 on their mobile phone bill or deducted from their prepaid balance.
MO or MT billing?
A shortcode used for premium sms may either bill on a mobile originating (MO) or mobile terminating basis (MT).
MO billing is the term used to bill when a sms message is sent to a shortcode.
MT billing is the term used to bill when a sms message is received from a shortcode.
