Charity donations during a global pandemic

The digital industry has been able to almost seamlessly move to a 100% remote working model, Mobivate included. We, like others have always valued our global working opportunities for contractors and remote workers.  Online meetings, collaboration tools and bespoke Mobivate software has always been the glue that binds our international offices in the UK, Guernsey, Australia, Kenya and South Africa. Sadly, some industries have felt the full pain of social isolation.  The charity sector is one hit particularly hard during this challenging time.

Charity Oxfam have announced they are losing £5 million a month from the closure of its shops. The National Council for voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has predicted that the UK lockdown is likely to cost charities a total of £4.3 billion in revenue. As the charity industry deals with the cancellation of their primary fundraising events and store closures due to Covid-19, mobile donations provide a new opportunity for collecting donations from every UK mobile phone during lockdown and beyond.

Mobivate provide UK registered charities with mobile donations via our MobiPay business. With MobiPay a micropayment can be charged directly to a mobile user's pay monthly phone bill or deducted instantly from their pay as you go mobile phone credit.

MobiPay allows mobile users in the UK to donate amounts of £1.50, £3, £5 or £10 via Text Donation Shortcodes on a once-off or subscription basis. From the web or a mobile site this can be a Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) donation of up to £30 in a single donation. We have a special arrangement with the UK mobile networks that provides a 100% income pass-through for donation shortcodes and DCB donation services. Mobivate can even manage the gift aid collection and set you up with a mobile website to collect the donator’s details in order to claim gift aid.  Donating with gift aid means charities can claim an extra 25p for every £1 that is given.  This does not cost the mobile donator anything extra! A £30 donation quickly becomes £37.50. As long as the donator is a UK taxpayer they qualify for the gift aid bonus.

Adding a donation text short code or online mobile donation will complement any existing online or offline (print, radio, outdoor) charity marketing campaign.
